Traditional inventory systems are very simple, add or subtract 1 to the count on hand, even for most raw materials, add or subtract a basic volume or weight. Lumber is a single exception it can only be cut down, never built back up, for new wood this process is simple the cut a given number of 2″ x 4″ with the best lengths for a given log. But reclaimed lumber is chaos, it is extremely difficult to predict the actual output of a given board. That is why Lumber uses volumes based inventory coupled with real time inventory practices to keep track of this chaos, we can handle anything from beams to paint cans to those fancy nails you bought for that one client.
